You’ve probably seen these posts and ads on social media with stunningly gorgeous girls smiling while brushing their teeth with some weird-looking black substance. That, my friend, is activated charcoal toothpaste – a thing that I’m going to review today. Quite a few brands offer this natural alternative to usual teeth whitening, but one of the most known is probably WARPAINT Natural Teeth Whitener. It is an Australian brand, which is FDA registered. I thought this is important to mention because there are plenty of brands offering the same product that isn’t certified, so who knows how safe their products are. Also, WARPAINT is vegan, organic, and does not test on animals.
So, let’s explore more what this Natural Teeth Whitener is about. It contains only 5 ingredients:
• Activated coconut shell charcoal: the star ingredient and the reason why this Whitener is black as night. WARPAINT claims the activated kind of charcoal is different from the usual charcoal and is less abrasive.
• Calcium clay: added for additional minerals for dental wellbeing.
• Organic sweet orange peel, peppermint, and lemon myrtle: were added for anti-inflammatory and mouth refreshing properties.
It’s a powder-based, waterless product, black in color, which comes in a black travel-friendly plastic jar. One thing that really stands out with charcoal teeth whiteners – boy, they’re messy! Double that if they come in powder form. To use this particular whitener, you have to dip a wet toothbrush into the powder and try to brush your teeth as per usual. However, no matter how hard I try, that black dust is just everywhere. Oh, and you better brush your teeth with your mouth shut; otherwise, you’ll have to do even more serious cleaning afterward.
So, the main question is – does it work? The answer is yes. However, the results are very gradual and not as dramatic as would be with professional whitening. But it is a safer option, especially if your teeth are fragile and you use it with caution. Another thing that I really liked is how my squeaky clean my teeth felt using this. However, I lack that refreshing taste that my usual toothpaste gives me.
WARPAINT Natural Teeth Whitener is available here for $39.95 for 50g (150 uses) or other retailers near you.
