Becoming a judge in the Clean Beauty Awards, hosted by Certclean, was an absolutely amazing experience. I participated in the CBA for the second year in a row, and this year I was lucky to rate two different categories: skincare and deodorants. You can read the whole post about my experience with the skincare category here.
Today, I want to share about deodorants, which are actually my second favorite category after skincare. Like with the other category, I received 6 products to rate based on my personal user experience:
– Dom’s Calm Deodorant
– Ginger Michelle Make A Wish Natural Deodorant Balm
– Cris’s Blends Patchouli Charcoal Natural Vegan Deodorant
– Cris’s Blends Island Breeze Natural Vegan Deodorant
– I Luv It Naturally Sensitive Sweetheart Deodorant
– Ultrella Sunshine Lime Natural Deodorant
I’m not going to preach the importance of your underarm friend being made with only natural ingredients. I think if you’re here, you’ve probably figured that out by now. There’s still a myth out there that there’s a lack of good natural deodorant (which I totally disagree with). What I want to do is to make known about as many natural deodorants as possible. That way, you can see if there’s one for you.
I hope this Cris’s Blends Patchouli Charcoal Natural Vegan Deodorant (92g for $11.99) gets to win the awards. Formulated with magnesium, baking soda, and arrowroot powder, this vegan, cruelty-free deodorant is a powerful tool against excessive sweating and bad odor. It comes in a sustainable paper tube, which is easy to use. My only concern is that the container might get a bit messy if the deodorant is exposed to hot temperatures, so I wouldn’t carry it in, let’s say, my purse. But other than that, I love it. It is placed under the “men’s” category on the brand’s website, probably because of its “manly” scent. However, I’d call it a unisex product because I don’t see why a woman could not use it and enjoy its benefits.

Cris’s Blends Island Breeze Natural Vegan Deodorant (92g for $11.99) is created specifically for sensitive skin. Meaning, there are no ingredients that might potentially be irritating to your armpit area. Usually, the only ingredient removed is baking soda because it’s the number one irritant in natural deodorants. There’s a belief that deodorants containing baking soda are usually more effective. Still, in my opinion, it solely depends on the product, like this Island Breeze Natural Deodorant, which is armed with other ingredients such as magnesium and arrowroot powder. It works well, and I don’t even miss the baking soda in it. Another thing that I like is its creamy texture. I like the way it glides on the skin without the need to rub it in too much. My only issue with this deodorant is its packaging (the same problem with the Patchouli Charcoal Deodorant). Also, the scent could be more gentle since everyone around me seems to notice that my pits smell like Pina Coladas, but this is not necessarily a bad thing.

I absolutely love it when I have only good things to say about a product! Nelson Naturals DOM’S Calm Natural Deodorant (65ml for $16.99) ticks all the boxes a natural effective deodorant should tick. First of all, it comes in a reusable or recyclable glass container with a compostable bamboo lid. Second, the texture is lovely! It is silky, smooth, and does not feel greasy at all. Alright, and the third thing is its divine scent. Honestly, lavender is one of the best scents to have in a deodorant. However, if you don’t like lavender, DOM’S has other scents available. My experience is really good with this product. From easy application to its ability to protect me from becoming a stinky mess. Love it; nothing more can be added here.

Ultrella Sunshine Lime Natural Deodorant (60ml for $15) is the only natural deodorant in this category that is not only a deodorant, but also a natural antiperspirant. Antiperspirant means that it protects from bad odor and reduces the amount of sweat your armpits produce. With Ultrella’s IBR-Snowflake® technology, that reduction is about 1/3, which, in my eyes, is reasonable and healthy enough. Especially if you’re a profuse sweater, like me. Another thing that I like about this deodorant is its packaging. It looks fun and bright and is easy to quickly spot in your makeup bag. Moreover, it’s convenient to carry on the go without worrying about any leaks. The scent is fresh that of citrus fruit.

I Luv It Naturally Sensitive Sweetheart Deodorant (100ml for $22) is I Luv It best-seller deodorant. I enjoy this deodorant the most because of its creamy texture, which melts right into the skin. The deodorant is formulated with only 6 ingredients! Also, it’s made without baking soda, so it is suitable for even the most sensitive skin. My biggest issue with it is that it stains white clothing, which is such a shame. Also, the spicy vanilla scent is a bit too sweet for my personal liking. However, this did not affect the ratings; I still think this deodorant is one of the best ones out there in its performance.
Overall rating: 10/10
Although, Ginger Michelle Make A Wish Natural Deodorant Balm (75g for $22) has the most beautiful packaging in the whole category, I gave this deodorant one of the the lowest ratings. Simply, for a couple of things: its chalky texture and clothing stains. I think kaolin clay is responsible for this, but honestly, even though the stains easily wash off, I don’t think I would repurchase it because it’s too much trouble.
