What was your biggest challenge when switching all your beauty products to more natural/organic? For me, it was finding a good natural deodorant that WORKS. If you don’t have this headache, then you can consider yourself lucky. Before even starting this blog, I was able to try quite a few natural and organic deodorants, but it was one disappointment after another. There was only one deodorant that I was satisfied with (kind of) – Aubrey Organics Deodorant for men, but the scent was too overpowering, so I had to ditch this one too. Then I started blogging and soon after I found out about PiperWai Natural Deodorant, which seemed like a miracle to me. It was better than any natural deodorant I’ve tried before. After all this time, I still think it’s great. However, there were no PiperWai retailers near me, so I had to find another good option. And I did. Can you guess, which one is it? Let’s see:
Alterra Natural Deodorant with Lemon Balm (discontinued)
I feel awful throwing another stone in Alterra’s garden because some of its products are absolutely fantastic, but Alterra’s Natural Deodorant is the worst deodorant I’ve tried. Ever. Not only it doesn’t do what it’s supposed to, but it seems like the scent itself makes me a bit stinky. It is, though, certified organic, vegan, and formulated without aluminum or any other nasty ingredients. I also love the bottle design, so I’m really bummed that I dislike the product so much.
Schmidt’s Bergamot + Lime Deodorant (jar discontinued, but you can get it as a stick here)
Schmidt’s deodorants are admired by many green beauty bloggers, and now I get why. This vegan deodorant has proven to be utterly trustworthy in stressful situations and on days when I am very active. I would put myself above the average on a sweat chart (if there would be one), yet this deodorant still manages to last about 7-8 hours. I think it would last longer if I would reapply it.
Schmidt’s deodorants come in five scents: Ylang-ylang + Calendula, Cedarwood + Juniper, Bergamot + Lime, Lavender + Sage, and Unscented. The scent I have is Bergamot and Lime, which feels sour, yet refreshing. I’m actually surprised with myself that I didn’t get the lavender one, maybe next time.
One thing to be aware of is that it contains baking soda, so if you have sensitive skin, it might start irritating your armpits. If you experience something like this, choose deodorant without this ingredient, and you’ll be fine.
Have you tried any of these deodorants? What is your must-have natural deodorant?
Talking about Alltera deo my feelings are the same!! Complete waste of money 🙁 And the situation without it is much better than with it!
Yes, sadly that’s true.
Oh that is a pity that Alterra deo didnt really perform well. I have never used this brand…xx
There are a few amazing products in Alterra range, but this deodorant is not one of them 🙂
I love Schmidt’s! I work with small children at an early education site (which often means running around all day) and the ylang-ylang and calendula gets me through the day stink free. I might need to reapply if I’m running an evening session in addition to my full work day…but really, I’d have to do that with the chemical-ly deos too. I found the calendula one and the sage one worked best for me.
Thank you for your positive opinion, Joey!
Schmidt’s Bergamot & Lime deodorant is my favourite scent that they carry too!
Nice! It’s very fresh.
I’m still experimenting with different natural deodorants , haven’t found “the one” but would love to try the Schmidt’s (read a lot of good reviews).
Thanks for sharing
Which deodorants are you trying out? It took a lot of experimenting for me too! I also heard many nice words about Primal Pit Paste, so their deos are on my wishlist as well.
The ingredients of the Schmidt deodorant look like u can easily make it urself.
Oh I wish I would be that crafty!
I really like Schmidt’s deodorant too! I recently started using Lavanila deodorant which I would say is equal to Schmidt’s in effectiveness, however, it’s a bit pricier.
Lavanila deodorants seem great! I read that they are very effective even in summer heat.
I’ve never had much luck with natural products like this but will try the Schmidts where can you get it?
Check out Schmidt’s website, I think they have a list of retailers. I got mine at Ecco Verde.
