It seems there are so many powerhouse skincare ingredients nowadays, all of them marketed to change your skin instantly, but this one ingredient stood out time as one of the most effective. I’m talking about hyaluronic acid and its ability to highly contribute to skin’s hydration, elasticity, and collagen production. Skin loses its hyaluronic acid stores by 1% per year (sometimes even faster, depending on your age and skin), so one thing is clear, to achieve some kind of visible results, hyaluronic acid must be used almost continuously. The lower the weight of the hyaluronic acid molecule, the better, but even the high weight hyaluronic acid has profound benefits since it works as a kind of a water magnet for skin, holds it, and slows down the dehydration and loss of elasticity.
There’s always at least one natural hyaluronic serum present in my skincare stash, but I tend to choose a different one each time. Currently, I own two: The Organic Pharmacy Hyaluronic Acid Serum and Trilogy Hyaluronic Acid + Booster Treatment, which is more a treatment than a serum, but still.
The Organic Pharmacy Hyaluronic Acid Serum (30ml) with naturally derived hyaluronic acid, which is obtained from the fermentation of 2 types of probiotics found in wheat and corn starch. The hyaluronic acid in this serum is of a “unique organic triple molecular weight”, which means there are low, medium, and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid present in the serum. The low molecular weight allows deep penetration, to guarantee a wrinkle plumping and lifting effect. The medium and “high molecular weights” guarantee an intense hydrating action.
The serum itself has a texture that of a typical hyaluronic acid serum: light gel-like consistency, which completely absorbs in a couple of minutes. Among hyaluronic acid, there is also a witch hazel flower water (hydrosol). Witch Hazel is grand for anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing benefits, so it’s always handy to have it in skincare.
I mostly use this serum in the mornings after I noticed that hyaluronic acid serums tend to break me out a bit if I use them too much. I haven’t noticed any breakouts since.
Trilogy Hyaluronic Acid + Booster Treatment (12.5ml) is not a serum perse, but it’s a powerful treatment that should be used daily for about 2 weeks till completely finished up. It sounds like an answer to the skin’s SOS call, especially during the cold season when the skin is more prone to dehydration and flakiness.
The main ingredients in this treatment are hyaluronic acid, acerola fruit extract (high in antioxidants), ginseng root extract (for moisture), and rosehip oil (loaded with skin-nourishing vitamins and essential fatty acids). I haven’t tried this treatment yet, but I’ll definitely post an update after I finish it.
Ar you a fan of hyaluronic acid? Have you tried any of these serums?
