I’m not the best when it comes to taking care of my eyebrows, that’s why I don’t talk much about brow products on the blog. I’ve always had quite light and sparse brows, and no matter what I did, they just refused to grow. Like many of us, I used to experiment with shaping them in my late teens, which, as you can imagine, did not help the case at all. I’m wiser now and go to a professional if I want them tinted or shaped. Also, I try using pure castor oil as often as I can, though I don’t see much impact. So I rely on makeup products to make my brows look nicer and more presentable.
Two organic brow products that I’m currently using are Lavera Eyebrow Styling Gel and Zuii Organic Eyebrow Definer. I use each of them for a different purpose: one is for filling the brows, and the other is for styling and setting. Additionally, I sometimes use a deep gray shade from Dr. Hauschka’s Eye and Brow Palette. It’s a pigmented ashy dark brown color, so I choose it when I’m up for a more intense makeup look.
Zuii Organic Flora Eyebrow Definer 0.4g / approx $29.50 – £15
This creamy brow pencil is what I use for step one in my brow maintenance routine. First of all, I like that it’s retractable and has an angled shape. The shape makes it more convenient for filling eyebrows than usual brow pencils. The application is simple: brush the Definer over the eyebrows in short motions to create the shape you want. Because it contains many nourishing ingredients, the pencil feels soft to apply. It provides a natural, grease-free finish, but is pigmented enough. Just be careful when filling thinner lines. Those places usually require precision, and you can accidentally go outside the lines because of the wider tip the Definer has.
The color Taupe is a medium brown and would suit anyone from dark blondes to brunettes. The shade is somewhat neutral so it would fit warm and cool skin tones. There’s another color available called Coco, which is warmer and lighter than Taupe.
Lavera Eyebrow Styling Gel 9ml / approx $15 – £11
My step two for brow maintenance is usually applying this styling gel from Lavera. Its purpose is to color, style, and provide a definition for brows after they’ve been filled with Zuii’s Eyebrow Definer. The tube has a groomer, which is convenient if you want to get the brows in the right place before styling them. If your brows are dense, then you could probably manage with only this one product, but I tend to fill in my brows first and then set them with this gel to achieve a more natural and defined look.
The color I have is Hazel Blonde, which is a light brown. It’s more warm-toned than cool-toned in my opinion, but still neutral enough to work for both skin tones. If you’re looking for a clear eyebrow gel, Lavera also has this gel in Transparent.

So here’s what I use for my everyday brow routine. I like both of these products, especially the Zuii Definer. Both are great quality items and the perfect size to carry in your handbag for any necessary touch-ups as well.
What are your essentials for maintaining brows?
I’ve been looking for a natural eyebrow pencil for so long! Had no idea that Zuii carried one, I will definitely have to pick one up. The W3ll People brow powder is too messy for traveling with!

Loose products can get very messy indeed! I was torn between choosing this Zuii pencil and Au Naturale Brow Boss, but the Zuii one won because of its angled shape.
I have a similar brow routine: first I fill in with a brow pencil (mine is the ashy one from Alterra), then I set with a brow gel.
At the time I started this routine, I could not find any ash-toned brow gels – I simply crushed one of my duo colour brow palettes to fine powder and mixed until the colour matched, and I tinted my brow gel with it.
What a brilliant idea, Karin. Especially, knowing how hard it is sometimes to find a brow product that would match the skin tone well. Would you recommend the Alterra brow pencil?
Yes, I like it very much!
