Over these past months, through my friendship with LoveLula, I’ve been lucky enough to discover this new and before unheard brand – PHB Ethical Beauty. The brand itself is the UK-based, family-run business, which not only focuses on creating quality handmade natural beauty products but also is a company that gives back – 20% of its profit donates to charity.
The Skin Brighten Gel* comes in a charming vintage-looking jar, containing 120ml, which is a larger than usual amount of a face cream. Though the product has a long expiry date and also can be used as a body gel for targeted areas. Once you open the jar, you can instantly detect a powerful herbal scent, which quickly evaporates and becomes soft and kind of grassy. The main components in this gel are neroli (targets dark spots and evens out skin tone), aloe vera (heals and hydrates the skin), licorice (reduces pigmentation), and immortelle (regenerates the skin). This ingredient cocktail makes sure that dull skin gets the treatment it needs to become more even and radiant.
What I like the most about this Skin Brighten Gel is its amazing consistency – the gel is extremely lightweight and has almost watery texture, which allows the gel to sink into the skin within few seconds. You only need a tiny pea size amount for the whole face (even such a small amount will be enough for good results), because too much product might not sink in as well and peel off if you try to layer it with other products (such as liquid foundation).
After it sinks in, my skin is left looking calm, healthy, and slightly radiant. Because this is not a hydrating gel, but more as a treatment.Because my skin is on the dry side, I can definitely feel some tightness on my cheeks, but nothing too severe. I use it occasionally before going to bed and layer with my serums if it gets too tight for my liking. I also read that some people use this gel as a wash-off treatment, but I usually leave it for the night and wash my face in the morning. I think this is a godsend product for oily, uneven, and dull skin types, especially during the warmer season, when all you want is a balancing, calming, slightly cooling, non-sticky face gel.
PHB Ethical Beauty Skin Brighten Gel is available here for $17/£13.75 for a 120 ml jar.
